Epcot 2009

This year I took my Mom and my 3 youngest brothers to Disney World from August 6-11. It was ridiculously hot and humid the whole trip, but otherwise a lot of fun.On our first full day in Disney World we went to Epcot. Going to Epcot was a strategic move recommended by the Unofficial Guide – get the World’s most “boring” park out of the way first. Thus while everyone was excited about rides like Test Track and Mission:Space, Kevin (age 12) decided that anything that wasn’t a roller coaster was a waste of time. After fighting his mother and picking on his little brothers for a while, Kevin finally warmed up to Disney entertainment and eventually accepted something with a title as boring as Universe of Energy could be fun. Unfortunately we were all too hot and tired to really appreciate the World Showcase there are limited free options there. We did get to ride Soarin’ twice thanks to smart FastPass usage and it was a big hit amongst the entire group. I was glad I got to ride Universe of Energy, Spaceship Earth, and see Turtle Talk because I missed those rides the first time I came to Epcot. I also appreciated Illuminations a lot more this time because we got a good seat and I decided not to waste time taking pictures. By the end of the day I think everyone was satisfied with their first Disney park experience – even Kevin.

New York

I got tired of spending weekends tucked away in my apartment, so I decided to take the train down to New York City for the day. I went to the noon mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, then walked over to the Museum of Modern Art. After spending some time there looking at the works of Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Warhol I walked down to Times Square to get Broadway tickets from the TKTS booth. Then I walked back over to the Rockefeller Center to look around the NBC Studios area (I didn’t take the tour because I went on it years ago). Then I went back towards Broadway to see Avenue Q. Seattle

Last week I was in Seattle to visit the Disney offices there but I got a chance to explore the city a little more. I got to eat out at a lot of Seattle’s finest restaurants and also see some of the sites. Pictured here are my visits to Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Deception Pass State Park, and Fort Casey. Special thanks to Heather for being our tour guide and host for the weekend! Disney’s Hollywood Studios Gallery

Moving pictures in slideshow format. Our last day in Disney World was a bit crazy. We were heckled by stormtroopers and suffered through the extra crowds they brought with them. We got lost on the backlot streetscapes. We had to stood through Indiana Jones. We got rained on. I paid more than I would have liked for buffet dinner. BUT, I did learn to draw Tigger (I wish I did more of the animation classes). And we saw Fantasic and rode Toy Story Mania twice. Fun times.

Now with clever captions. On day 3 we started the day with Space Mountain, the went through Fantasyland. We got stuck in Splash Mountain but made it out. I got Woody’s Round Up stuck in my had. We slept through the Hall of Presidents. We laughed with Monster’s Inc. We went on Space Mountain again. We saw two parades and a fireworks spectacular.

This gallery has been Flickr-ized. On day 2 of our trip we flew to Mars in a spaceship and flew over California. We tested cars, found Nemo, and journeyed into imagination. Then we did a nine country tour of Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada. So we racked up a lot of frequent flyer miles and then saw fireworks.

Slimmed down and Photoshop-ed for easier consumption. On day 1 of our Disney vacation we checked out the animals of the Oasis, Pangini Forrest, and Kilminjaro Safaris. We saw the Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical. We encountered a Yeti on Mount Everest and Dinosaurs in a meteor shower. So a pretty sweet start.
